What is Shiatsu?
“An art of touch “acupressure” of Japanese origin”
Shiatsu
Shiatsu, literally meaning finger pressure, is a Japanese acupressure technique derived from traditional Chinese medicine. It aims to treat various dysfunctions of the body by applying pressures on the paths of meridians, reflex points and acupuncture points. This method dissolves and releases blockages or tensions accumulated in the body, thus promoting better circulation of energy and blood flow. By restoring this energy balance, Shiatsu helps to relieve and treat a variety of physical problems, such as muscle and joint pain, soothing stress, relieve mental or emotional tensions, thus helping to regulate the mind and body to regain overall well-being. It acts on most of the individual’s physical and psychological disorders.

Work areas
Shiatsu is also used as a preventive measure and for the well-being of the human being, helping it maintain and preserve the energy harmony of the body, thus avoiding the appearance of physical or emotional disorders before they manifest. It is thus part of a proactive approach to global and holistic health. The practitioner, called Shiatsu-chi, applies pressure to the whole body using his thumbs, palms and elbows, while following the meridians, acupuncture points and reflex points. These pressures are often accompanied by stretching and joint mobilizations. Work on neuro-tendino-muscle bands reactivates certain blocked areas of the body, particularly origins, nerve endings and fascias while promoting muscle revascularization, thus releasing and reactivating blood and energy flows of the body.
Objectives
The goal of Shiatsu is to stimulate the body’s self-regulation and self-healing capacities by restoring a global balance (physiological, psychic and emotional). It aims to dissolve energy blockages, release vital energy and allow the body to regain stability, health and well-being. Shiatsu is usually done on the floor, on a futon or on a table. The practitioner exerting pressure on the whole body, the “Jusha”, that is, the person receiving the care, remains dressed in light and comfortable clothes, which is one of the strengths of this ancestral method.

Removal of blockages
The practitioner applies pressure on specific reflex points of the body, thus allowing the muscle tension to be released and the stagnant energy to be released. The aim is to restore balance and stability of body and mind, thus allowing health and well-being to be restored.
